Tara Nelson is the Program Director for Project Rebuild. A Truancy prevention program that assists students and families with combating chronic absenteeism.
Tara is a graduate of Roosevelt high School c/0 91, Sawyer Business College and Calumet College of St. Joseph.
Before devoting her time to Project Rebuild and helping families within the community, Tara did 9 years in The law office of Charles H. Graddick, Tara also worked at the Gary City Clerk's office, She was the courtroom clerk for 12 years. Tara was the office manager for the Indiana Parenting Institute. She helped host cultural competence classes, work with clients and provided professional development training. Tara is currently the NWI Outreach Coordinator for the My School Options program.
Tara, serves on many different boards she is the President of Clark Road Genesis family center, Brighter Day Their public service, she says some neighborhood. She is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Alumni Chapter, Alpha Sigma sigma. Tara is the Ways and Means Chair for the National Hook Up of Black Women. She is on the Advisory Board of Indiana 211 where she represents this region, she is a member of Pilgrim rest MB church advisory board.
In addition to being an outstanding servant for the community, Tara is the mother of 2 boys, Marcus Jr. and Nacie Henderson, as well as the Godmother to many. Tara belongs to Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church where the Reverend Charles Adams Jr. is pastor. Tara loves extending a helping hand in any way possible where she can make a difference. Her work and her actions speak for her life and love of her family.
